Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
An Efficient Treatment Option
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an eight-phase treatment method, offered at our Discovery NeuroCenters, that helps to expedite the processing of traumatic memories. Studies and practice have demonstrated that EMDR can often speed up the healing process from these disturbing memories or experiences in a fraction of the time previously required of talk therapies for trauma. Since eating disorders result from a complex combination of underlying issues, EMDR gives clients renewed hope for an accelerated, lasting recovery.
Finding Powerful Pathways
Adhering to our commitment to evidence-based treatment, EMDR has achieved an exemplary success rate. The structure of the eight-phase modality provides safety and containment for clients to move through previously unsafe or disturbing memories with the therapist. When the client is ready, one phase introduces bilateral stimulation, BLS with eye movements, tactile or auditory methods. The back and forth BLS movements are similar to Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, which allows internal associations to arise to be re-processed in the brain. By utilizing treatments such as EMDR, that trigger certain mechanisms within the brain, our NeuroCenter therapists are able to open previously closed or untapped pathways to healing.
