School Support Program

Focus on Recovery & Studies with the School Program

If you are a parent or guardian to an individual trying to work through an eating disorder, you have extra things to focus on: you want them to get the much-needed treatment they need but don’t want it to be at the expense of their schoolwork. Enter the Center for Discovery School Support Program. We focus on the eating disorder recovery that will in turn target the future success at school for years to come.

School Support Program Philosophy

At Center for Discovery (CFD), we treat eating disorders in a real-life setting which includes continued focus on academic success for our adolescent patients. We build confidence in young learners who may have struggled with their studies when trying to cope with mental health and social issues. In the School Support Program, patients can expect:

  • Allotted blocked-off time for school work within the residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment programs
  • Supervision and support from an on-site education liaison (outside tutors are welcome to schedule time with patients as well)
  • A small student-to-staff ratio
  • A collaborative effort between the education liaison and therapist so that they provide the best approach to learning and treatment
  • A school reintegration plan individualized to your child’s needs
  • A safe and clean environment that’s compliant with our own COVID Clean Commitment policy, modeled after CDC recommendations
  • Virtual sessions to adhere to local guidelines when needed (varies by location)

The Discovery Approach to Academic Reintegration: Assess & Address

Upon admission, patients’ needs and academic goals will be assessed. Our facility staff will address the needs of patients by supporting them and their loved ones in staying on track academically while they are enrolled in our treatment program.

Residential Treatment: Dedicated Time for Academics

In residential treatment, we provide 20+ hours of academics a week, one hour a day for partial hospitalization and 5+ hours for intensive outpatient. During this time, we provide a study hall environment where patients can work on their assignments. An education liaison will be checking in to see how patients are doing and to support them staying on track academically.

Outpatient: Academic Confidence Group

This in-person weekly group for outpatient programming consists of patients learning how to balance treatment while enrolled in school and supporting patients who are in the process of reintegrating back into an academic program. The 12-module group focuses on many topics, from time management skills and self-awareness to dealing with stress and creating SMART goals.
