Stars & Stripes: Empowering Veterans to Live a Healthy Life
At Center for Discovery’s Stars & Stripes program, we have created a safe space for veterans to heal physically and emotionally as they recover from an eating disorder. Treatment is tailored to help veterans not only overcome an eating disorder, but also can help them reintegrate into their community through gaining real-life coping skills. Here’s what makes our method to helping the veteran population unique:
- Various levels of care (residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient)
- Evidence-based and trauma-focused treatment modalities that include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and exposure & response prevention (ERP) therapy
- Experiential therapy, such as art, music and equine (varies per location)
- Unique and innovative dietary program that’s rooted in real-life recovery philosophies
- Personalized treatment done on a one-on-one basis plus in small groups
- Supportive clinical and medical healthcare professionals, many of whom practice the Health at Every Size® (HAES®) non-diet approach to eating disorder recovery
- Care coordination and transportation to and from the VA hospital
- Coaching opportunities to help patients navigate finances, write resumes and other life skills
- Nurturing aftercare program that is with patients for life after receiving care
