Do Boys Use Eating Disorder Centers
While it seems as though the whole world is focused on the high numbers of girls in eating disorder centers, they are not the only ones that use them. According to recent research 95% of those in an inpatient treatment center are girls between the ages of 10 and 20 and that approximately 10% of the US population suffers from some form of eating disorder.
Bearing this in mind the number of children in eating disorder centers is dramatically increasing as more kids are turning to diet pills as well as other methods to curb their appetites and achieve that waif-like supermodel appearance (for the girls). Boys seem to be at the opposite end of the scale and have overeating and “obesity” problems more frequently. Any of these conditions can have serious medical consequences and if you suspect your child might be experiencing an eating disorder, you should seek medical help.
