MILWAUKEE RESIDENTIAL & OUTPATIENT EATING DISORDER TREATMENT

Milwaukee, WI

HOME / LOCATIONS / MILWAUKEE, WI

For 25 years, Center for Discovery has provided compassionate and evidence-based eating disorder treatment to those in need. We are pleased to bring this quality care to the CFD facility that’s situated in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Serving adults of all genders (and soon adolescent patients of all genders), we are eager to support and work with the people in this region, as well as help anyone coming here from Chicagoland, Michigan or across the country.

We are committed to being good partners in the community by building relationships with the patients and their support systems who walk through our doors. And when we recognize that a patient is in need of a higher level of care, we are always willing to collaborate with the expert eating disorder providers in Wisconsin and surrounding states.

Our residential, partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) center in Milwaukee is either walking distance or a simple bus ride from various higher education schools, such as Marquette University, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Milwaukee Area Technical College. We will soon provide residential treatment for patients who need a higher level of care. We understand many young people struggle with eating disorders, so we want to make it easy on them with being in close proximity to universities. For those traveling from outside the state, we are less than nine miles from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.

Evidence-Based Treatment for Real-Life Recovery™

Patients will receive evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Patients will also learn exposure & response prevention (ERP) techniques, which are commonly used to help individuals overcome anxiety. ERP therapy slowly helps patients heal their relationship with food by re-integrating their foods and food situations that have been avoided; this can help patients finally “make peace” with these foods as well as their relationships overall. Getting to the root cause of the eating disorder through such therapies will help the patient move to the next level of care, continuing them on the path to a lifetime of recovery.

Our unique dietary program is rooted in the dietary philosophy of All Foods Fit™, Intuitive Eating  and exposure & response prevention (ERP) techniques. Each patient gains hands-on food preparation experience while meeting his or her individual dietary needs.

Discovery’s specialized binge eating disorder (BED) program, Path to Peace, is also offered at this location for our IOP patients who struggle with bingeing and chronic dieting. This treatment is done virtually and emphasizes representation, accessibility, weight inclusive care (Health at Every Size® (HAES®) informed), among other core approaches to care.

Patients can also expect programs after treatment, such as:

  • Aftercare to facilitate transitions and challenges post-discharge.
  • A customized Discovery app to provide information, resources and a community of support for family members.
  • Discovery alumni online support groups, in-person and virtual events for family members and patients to assist in post-discharge transition and provide an ongoing support system to facilitate long-term recovery.
