Nestled in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, our 6,600 square-foot residential treatment facility serves adults 18 years and older who are in need of a higher level of care.
The 12-bed home makes it Center for Discovery’s largest residential treatment program. Patients have the best of both worlds with this location: it’s tucked away in a quiet neighborhood but close to downtown Chicago. Exposure access is easy, as the home is only a block away from Lake Michigan, in between the campuses of Northwestern and Loyola universities, and walking distance to local businesses. When the weather is nice, outdoor space around the home is plentiful.
What makes our program so unique is that we give our patients a choice and a voice in their recovery. We’ve taken eating disorder treatment out of the hospital and into the home. Our inviting residential home provides a comfortable space for patients to practice newly acquired skills in a real-life setting.
As equal contributors to their treatment, we support patients in making recovery-oriented choices. Our patients work toward choosing and preparing their own meals, and they participate in individual and group therapy sessions throughout treatment. With these interventions, patients gain insight into their disorder, what’s driving it and practice new coping skills that are transferable to the real world.
Our patients receive individualized treatment that target the underlying factors contributing to their disorder. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed therapies and exposure & response prevention (ERP) provide a comprehensive and holistic treatment experience. This treatment center emphasizes a body positive approach and Health at Every Size® (HAES®).
Dietary Program: Handling Eating Disorder Treatment with CARE
Healing, growth and a positive relationship with food is possible with the Center for Discovery Dietary Program. Our approach the CARE-CFD Model, which stands for “consistent attuned relational eating.” This means patients have the steadiness of a dietary plan that is adaptable to what’s happening in their life. The CARE-CFD Model embraces: trauma-focused nutrition therapy; collaboration between patients and the care team; responsiveness to the whole body, including being in tune with the nervous system; and weight inclusivity.

*Percentage includes adult and adolescent patients who admitted to the Center for Discovery program in 2021 (between 1/1/2021 and 12/31/2021) and completed the Recovery Assessment Scale (RAS, N=2,644). Average treatment range 41.3 days for those who completed treatment (did not discharge to higher level of care, due to insurance, against treatment advice transfer or administratively).
Support Group
The Support in Recovery group is for those who are in treatment, in recovery or who have not yet sought help. We also have a group for family and friends.
