Helping Families Find Direction, Encouragement and Hope.
Family is most frequently the primary source of support for an adolescent struggling with an eating disorder. At Center for Discovery our staff recognizes that upon arrival family members are experiencing a number of intense feelings, specifically being overwhelmed by the influence the eating disorder has had on them. We understand that the family's primary focus is on their loved one.
Over the years of providing treatment, following the latest research and receiving testimonials from families who have participated in our program, we understand the importance of providing Family Therapy for all immediate members and those who have the resident's best interest at heart. By the day of arrival at Discovery, each family member has been deeply affected in most areas of their lives. They need a safe venue where they may describe personal experiences, share personal concern, receive life skills education, and find hope during a desperate time. It is equally necessary that those who are listening understand their dilemmas. Simply put, the family needs support.
Family therapy is the preferred manner for providing education, encouragement, empathy and ideas on how to help themselves and their adolescent. In order to serve the family, we provide time each week for on-site family therapy. With frequent "face to face" therapy, the family will find relevant opportunities to address the most concerning or most difficult of topics. The team of professionals who assist the family will provide information, guidance and education so that they may choose a "best" course of action promoting recovery. In 11 years of providing specialized eating disorder treatment, it is our experience that families who have ongoing professional support can improve their relationships, management of stressful events and their personal environment to promote successful recovery.
